Founding partners, and husband & wife team Jeff Bistritan & Daun Bailey, started Barrel Select to provide an exciting new alternative for fine wine to Toronto’s wine community. Licensed in 1997 as a manufacturer’s agent [in total ignorance of the bureaucratic web of alcoholic beverage sales in Ontario], we set out to carve a niche in Toronto’s wine scene as a partner/supplier of elite wines through Barrel Select. Coming from varied personal and professional backgrounds, we wanted to bridge the wine experience from wine lover [the maker] to wine lover [the consumer]. Focusing on the wines we loved to drink while living and traveling in the U.S., we sought out the unknown gems from, at the time, the new breed of artisanal winemakers. Our wines are distinguished by their exclusivity, scarcity, integrity, the intensity of the craftsmen that make them and, most importantly, their pure, hedonistic “drinkability.”
